"AmerisourceBergen was named the winner of Healthcare Distribution Management Association's (HDMA) 2016 Distribution Management Award for centralizing its data for Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) compliance and preparing for long-term serialization requirements. Last year, DSCSA begin requiring that supply chain stakeholders receive and transmit transaction information, history, and statement data among trading partners. "

InBrief: HDMA Updates DSCSA Q&A - RxTrace

Read Dirk Rodgers' full update: InBrief: HDMA Updates DSCSA Q&A - RxTrace:

"This is a very well thought through document that will help companies understand how wholesale distributors are interpreting confusing or ambiguous sections of the law.  The document leans heavily toward questions about how wholesale distributors will need to react in various situations, but it will also be a resource that manufacturers, repackagers and dispensers will want to obtain and review."

HDMA Revises 856 Advance Ship Notice Documentation

Read the full article: HDMA revises 856 Advance Ship Notice documentation:

"That HDMA has come out twice with updates is a testament to the urgency of getting data-forwarding practices in order among US drug distributors: come January, distributors will need to be able to verify shipments (at the lot level) to pharmacies and other customers. This is the legislated mandate from Congress when it passed the Drug Quality and Security Act (of which DSCSA is a part); FDA is on call to Congress to issue guidelines for drug tracking by late November."

HDMA survey of specialty distribution: Sales to physicians' offices have dropped by 66% - Pharmaceutical Commerce

HDMA survey of specialty distribution: sales to physicians' offices have dropped by 66% - Pharmaceutical Commerce:

"A recap helps explain: Specialty pharmaceuticals differ from traditional pharma products in that they tend to be “high touch”—needing numerous ancillary services such as infusion, monitored dispensing, REMS, or followup care. As they tend to be expensive, the reimbursement / prior authorization / patient-support questions are also complex. Oncology products, in particular, have traditionally been purchased under a “buy and bill” model by physicians’ practices, but this is fading (as the HDMA date show) in place of sales to specialty pharmacies and health systems."

Full-line distributor sales topped $300 billion in 2012 - DQSA lot/item level tracking stats

Full-line distributor sales topped $300 billion in 2012, representing 91% of pharma sales - Pharmaceutical Commerce:

"The Factbook contains operational details often of high interest to vendors serving wholesalers’ infrastructure needs. One particular number to call out: two out of three HDMA members are already tracking lot-level barcodes through their systems for at least some of their products. Lot-level tracking is now the centerpiece of the Drug Quality and Security Act, which will mandate such tracking over the next four years. Data on item-level tracking (the next stage in DQSA) is occurring, but at significantly lower percentages."

HDMA’s 2013 Track-and-Trace Conference: Right Here Waiting for H.R. 3204 - FDA Law Blog

FDA Law Blog: HDMA’s 2013 Track-and-Trace Conference: Right Here Waiting for H.R. 3204:

"With fingers crossed, attendees looked ahead to the future of track-and-trace. Panelists expressed that the national system will hopefully make it harder for bad actors to corrupt the integrity of the supply chain, as the current patchwork of state pedigree laws allows bad actors to shop around for more lenient states. It is hoped that this bill will put everyone on a level playing field and reduce loopholes."

FDA Law Blog: FDA and CA Board of Pharmacy Talk Pedigree - Annual HDMA Track and Trace Conf

FDA Law Blog: FDA and California Board of Pharmacy Talk Pedigree at Annual HDMA Track and Trace Conference:

"The Healthcare Distribution Management Association (“HDMA”) held its annual Track and Trace Technology Seminar on November 12 – 14, 2012, designed to address drug pedigree and track and trace requirements being developed in the United States and to explore how stakeholders will play a role---and what those roles may be---going forward.  Perhaps most interesting at the conference was the seemingly unanimous support from industry for the implementation of a national pedigree program in some form.  What follows below are some of the highlights of the conference speakers. . . ."
