Using Medicare Accreditation To Make A Difference With Private Pay Insurance: HME-Business

In a nutshell:

Providers need accreditation to bill Medicare, but it's critical in HME businesses' overall market strategy for working with private payers, as well. What do providers need to keep in mind?

According to the article:

  • "After years of largely accepting the accreditation requirement, private payers have begun to scrutinize what product categories providers are accredited for when making decisions about valuable contracts.
  • As the HME industry weathers the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating compliance and emergency preparedness policies to private payers will become more crucial in standing out in the marketplace.
  • Accrediting organizations have created programs specifically targeted at proving expertise in product categories such as oxygen, home infusion, pharmacy and more."

Expect Audits After the Emergency Ends - HomeCare

According to the article:

"The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued temporary regulatory waivers and new rules during the COVID-19 public health emergency to allow certain health care providers flexibility in providing care during the pandemic. Some of these initiatives directly impact the home medical equipment/durable medical equipment (HME/DME) industry. Providers of HME and DME, however, should be prepared for post-COVID-19 audits. Here are some areas of concern to be aware of."

The Effect of COVID-19 on NABP’s Drug Distributor Accreditation Program (formerly VAWD) & The Future of Accreditation and Re-accreditation - GTC Consulting

Read the full post:  The Effect of COVID-19 on NABP’s Drug Distributor Accreditation Program (formerly VAWD) & The Future of Accreditation and Re-accreditation - GTC Consulting

According to the post:

" ... applicants pursuing the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) Drug Distributor Accreditation (formerly the Verified Accredited Wholesale Distributor program or VAWD) are not being cleared for survey unless the applicants sufficiently prove they have a process in place to detect and prevent the spread of COVID-19. I think we can all agree from a public health perspective this makes sense. However, the challenge here, as everyone who has ever been through this accreditation process is well aware of, NABP is not the best at providing clear guidance as to what they specifically want from the applicant to satisfy their standards. This new requirement is no exception as many applicants find themselves going back and forth with NABP hoping to mitigate costly and time consuming survey delays."
